She's reported on sports for some of some of the most prominent media in the world. She worked for The Washington Post nearly a decade, covering Grand Slam Tennis and Grand Slam Football, as as basketball at multiple Olympics. Nichols worked for nine years at ESPN, where she won two Emmy Awards. In her role as a reporter in the stands, she was also a part of Monday Night Football. The next step was to CNN after which she joined Turner Sports. The show she first created and hosted was named self-titled Unguarded with Rachel Nichols, and aired regularly on CNN as well as CNN International. The show drew more than one-billion viewers in the whole globe. Nichols was a reporter at TNT in the time period covering NBA broadcasts such as regular season games, playoffs or teams from the All-Star league. Her duties with TBS also included golf and baseball coverage, as well as Final Four broadcasts by CBS. It is the only nomination in 42 years of the award for a female from the more than 200 nominees contenders.
